Main Help ¶

Welcome to the JOSM Help! The Introduction will guide you to your first successful edit. The How Tos deal with some use cases.

Interface ¶

The Main Menu and its submenus File, Edit, View, Tools, Selection, Presets, Imagery, Windows, Audio and Help offer all actions possible in JOSM. A search for menu items finds every action. The Main Toolbar has buttons for actions and presets. The sidebar called Toggle Dialogs has panels for selected elements. The Status Bar informs about the drawing position. The Edit Toolbar is divided. The lower buttons are for the panels in the sidebar. Most important are the buttons in the upper part. They choose the different Working modes.

The main working area is the Map View. Here new objects can be created if the Draw mode was set before. The Select mode is for moving existing objects and for choosing them into the Selection. More modes exist.

Further dialogs for setting Preferences, for managing Changesets, for resolving Conflicts and the Relation Editor are explained in their help.
