#19021 closed enhancement (fixed)

Never hide presets menu

Reported by: skyper Owned by: team
Priority: normal Milestone: 20.05
Component: Core Version:
Keywords: template_report preset menu Cc:

Description (last modified by skyper)

As the item "Preset preferences" in presets menu is always active, please, never hide or deactivate the menu completely but rather some items.

Is it useful to silently hide menus completely?

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. open presets' preferences through Presets menu -> Preset preferences
  2. delete all active presets on right side
  3. save and close preferences

What is the expected result?

Presets menu still available and only "Preset preferences" item active.

What happens instead?

Presets menu completely hidden.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if possible.

  • Similar is the situation without data layer. There the presets menu is visible but deactivated instead of active menu and all items, but "Search preset..." and "Preset preferences", disabled.
  • Without selection all presets and could be rather deactivated than presenting a warning when chosen.

While talking about hiding menus, the tools menu and the selection menu could be disabled (or even hidden) without data layer.

Deleting all active presets in preferences still hides the preset menu and I can not reach the shortcut to preset preferences.

Preset preferences had never supported shortcuts (neither does imagery preferences).

Replying to skyper:

I can not reach the shortcut to preset preferences.

There is no need to make it all extra complex for that special special case that probably nobody ever will face:

  • deleted all presets
  • looking at the News page
  • want to open preset preferences

And even then there are other ways to open the preferences.

Plugins:
+ tagging-preset-tester (35267)

It just makes no sense to hide menus with active items but is rather annoying for users.

As reloading presets does not work, atm. I have to delete it first, close preferences and then go back to presets preferences to add it again.
I do this several if not many times working on presets and to not get confused and to not have to search long lists, I often have only one preset active.
As disabling presets does not work I have to delete them.

Well, I did not know that I am nobody but remember I am far from perfect.

Just change the name of a preset and all will reload.

Thanks, forgot about it again, cause I had some problems with updating/reloading the selection in combination with the tagging-preset-tester plugin. Have to test it again, especially with icon paths.
