Glossary
To keep JOSMs interface easy and consistent its vocabulary needs to be easy and consistent too. Also the Translations benefit from a plain terms.
The glossary has the sections Data, Verbs

| to select | Like "to select map objects for the Selection". Avoid this verb elsewhere when not referring to an object on the map. | |
| to choose and to mark | Like "to mark an entry" and "Show/Hide the chosen layer." | |
| to search | Result of a search is a new Selection | |
| to look … up | To "Lookup" objects in a list (Validation Results, Relation Members, Relation panel etc.). A successful look chooses objects. Avoid sentences like "Select the selected objects." | |
| to browse | The Presets catalog is browseable by text search or by menu structure | |
| to move | Like "to move map objects to a new position" and avoid this verb elsewhere | |
| to shift | Like "Shift tags from ways to relations" | |
