+1, for using paved, unpaved or maybe mixed but unspecified adds no value and it is better to not add surface=* in this case. Similar is likely true for practicability=unspecified

Thanks for looking at these quite old external presets. You changes are good. I often wonder if these presets are used at all but we do not have any data about preset usage.

    3 I tried and from what I see fixed presets in https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Presets/CampingForOverlanders?action=diff&version=11 and in https://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/Presets/OSMRookie?action=diff&version=9 but here I am not entirely sure how to fix it
