I've removed the refs to the unknown node and JOSM can load the file, so I hope it helps.

Your problem is solved, but there must be an error in JOSM or one of the plugins.
Do you have an idea what (special) tool you used near the mentioned place?

I have the same problem. I added a few adresses on Långgatan, Härnösand.
I ended up with the same API error and broken JOSM state.

After a restart I succeded adding the housenumbers and upload them without being able to reproduce the bug. I used the exact same version of plugins and josm. Seems to be a hard bug to reproduce unfortunately :/

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. create housenumbers using address interpolation plugin

1.5 add housenumbers to ways

2. try upload get error: Placeholder node not found for reference -102307 in way 567331621
3. try deleting the house number on the way: no change still API error
4. try deleting the offending way entirely and upload -> bug reporter is triggered, see below

So i saved it as a .joz file and then tried to open it back but now it keeps skipping the data layer. Can someone help me, please? New file attached is temp2.joz

The file is a zip file. You can extract data.osm and remove those references which JOSM complains about. In this case there were a few such missing nodes.
I've done this again. The missing nodes where probably somewhere near node 7913250778 (50.0596617, 6.0340399)

@GerdP, thank you for the explanations! I exercised myself on getting rid of those references, reworked the area as i had intended and succeeded my upload.

@skyper, i think it were the plugins/tools:

• "align nodes in circle", to shape a closed way i had created to be joined afterwards with the existing area
• "join overlapping area"
• "contourmerge v0.1.6", used on a new area adjacent to the previous one i have reshaped.

I've noticed on other occasions empty nodes being created or rather being leftover when using the tool "join overlapping areas" on adjacent identically tagged areas and glued together on their adjacent way and nodes, the nodes between both areas were not deleted. It's weird because on the edits i did today, the nodes were rather newly created with the "drawing" mode and then shaped in circle as I explained, etc.
Sometimes i use also the tool "split object" from the "utilsplugin2" (now v35691). I draw a way in an area and split it, then get rid of the extra section or merge it with another adjacent area. This is convenient on large areas when other elements are glued together such as a highway for example.

Ok, contourmerge is one of my suspects. Maybe it was fixed, yesterday, in #20629 (v0.1.8). See also #18600 and #18655.

Maybe, you can use the "Dataset consistency test" in the context menu of the layer list panel and find a reliable way to reproduce the problem.

The problem with the countourmerge problem (fixed in #20629) was, that the data integrity problem only pops up when you modify the affected way again or try to upload the data.
I don't know the workflow, but without reproducing steps, I would not blame the AddrInterpolation plugin.
