Description
During large scale imports, many layers must be modified together and then uploaded with different OSM users. It is useful to see which layers have changes that must still be uploaded or saved. At the moment this is only visible by either deleting the layer or restarting JOSM. This is too error prone (clicking the wrong button will discard changes).
In terms of UI, I am thinking about a small green/yellow dot in one of the corners of the layer icon, or a star next to the layer number or before the layer name.

Yes indeed, but the feature with the * in the title bar indicates the currently active layer. The feature request in this ticket is about the list of layers, of which one or more can be modified. Activating each one of them to check if there are changes can be cumbersome.

There is an indicator in the title of the main window. When the current layer has changes, a * is placed before the "JOSM Java OpenStreenMap Editor".
