Description
Pretty much a self explanatory enhancement.
Provide users with the ability to collapse "Edit new relation" windows to the window title bar only, while maintaining the current title bar (window) screen position (do not collapse and move the title bar to bottom of the screen – left or right).
When collapsed the title bar should indicate the name of the relation and for which layer it is associated with – something along the lines of: "<relation-name> relation in layer <layer-name>"
In the situation where the relation doesn't exist in the current layer, remove the bar/window entirely from view while restoring the bar/window to its former position and state when its associated layer becomes active again – this should not occur if the edit window has been closed.
I find when having to access several relations windows during an edit process that it can become both tedious and inefficient to open and close each window as required. Offset stacking them while open on the screen also becomes a chore as the open windows take up much needed screen real estate (esp. if you only have a single monitor to work with). Being able to collapse these edit windows so that only the window title bar remains on the screen saves one from the trouble of searching for the relation in the relation list or from a pile of stacked open edit windows.
A stacking option in which multiple edit windows are aligned vertically while "snapped" together (both in the expanded and collapsed state) such that when collapsed they form a tidy group of title bars. They should be individually expandable/collapsible while remaining 'snapped' to one another. When an edit window is closed any bar/window below becomes attached to the bottom of the bar/window above. A good implementation of this process can be found in the way collapsible sidebar windows work in the 3D modelling application SketchUp.
This is a window manager feature and works under Linux with an appropriated WM.
