#16149 new enhancement

layer france : missing permission-ref <> attribution-url <> terms-of-use-url

Reported by: marc_marc Owned by: team
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: External imagery source Version:
Keywords: france Cc:

Description

BANO: this layer is missing a permission-ref
imho the url that is currently in attribution-url should be moved in permission-ref.

Toulouse : those layers are missing a permission-ref
imho the url that is currently in terms-of-use-url should be moved in permission-ref

can I make the change or did I misunderstand something ?

BANO: OK, this URL may fit better in permission-ref. However I don't want to let the attribution-URL blank, so the user can click something where he gets more information about this source. Where is the attribution for BANO defined?

Toulouse: The advantage of terms-of-use-URL is that it is displayed as second link in JOSM (lower left corner) which gives the user the possibility for information. (This is also useful, when there is written in the wiki that it is recommended to use the tag source=xyz on the derived objects or the changeset.) Whereas permission-ref is not used in JOSM and is rather only for people who edit the entries in the wiki to prove/check that/if the source is allowed to use in JOSM. The user should expect that he is allowed to use all sources in the default list. If there are speciel requirements for a source then we have the eula property.

BANO: bano is a work of osm-fr (French local chapter). we don't really have currently an attribution wiki page.
did you have a exemple of good attribution wiki page ?

Toulouse : yes I think that permission-ref is usefull to find some doc about how this layer was allowed for use in osm.
for the source tag, witch key from the imagery entry does josm use ?
did you also have a good exemple of a layer having a terms-of-use-url not the same as permission-ref ?
because if I understand you correctly, the same url should be used for both key.

Replying to marc_marc:

for the source tag, witch key from the imagery entry does josm use ?

the translated imagery name

did you also have a good exemple of a layer having a terms-of-use-url not the same as permission-ref ?
because if I understand you correctly, the same url should be used for both key.

They can be different, e.g.
permission-ref: link to prove that we are allowed to use the source, often a link in the wiki where the permission is explained, could also be a copy of an email of the imagery provider or similar
terms-of-use-url: a site with further explanations which could be directly from the provider

Example of a quick search: wiki:Maps/Germany#Berlinaerialphotograph2011
