#14398 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Enable https support on remote by default

Reported by: Stereo Owned by: team
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Core Version:
Keywords: https Cc:

Description

With more sites moving to https, and openstreetmap.org potentially making the switch some day, it would be good if Preferences > Remote > Enable HTTPS support were checked by default when enabling the remote.

As far as I can tell, this has no negative consequence.

https remote control doesn't work in firefox by default, see ticket:10033#comment:22 and #12230

Sorry, I meant that checking the checkbox by default has no negative consequence. It doesn't break anything for firefox users, since http will still be listening.

Please re-open, Safari on macOS still needs this, unfortunately

Sorry I prefer to simplify JOSM code if the feature is not needed for the two major browsers (Firefox & Chrome). I won't keep the whole complex https setup just for Safari, as they are probably going to fix it soon, see https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171934

Sounds reasonable. What about IE/Edge?
