Description
I am unsure if I already saw this on another ticket (I couldn't find it), but could JOSM use a better algorithm to resize/scale the satellite/imagery layers?
For example, we now have up to zoom 17 worldwide with MapBox (http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/lxbarth/diary/21622) but when zooming higher than this, JOSM pixelates the image.

Could you please provide coordinates where you took the screenshot? How did you create the second image?

Sorry if I have caused some confusion here (I didn't fix this nor have any patch).
Trying to clarify: I am using the MapBox layer at -21.60416509086044, -47.95575290737887, together with sharpening set to soft
(I find Bing images too blurry and then I use a soft sharpening)
The problem is that the image is being too much pixelated even with a soft sharpening.
Maybe it's the same (or related to) #5777?

I guess, that this is fixed in #12350
The link you provide shows in a video what you need to do.
JOSM does not automatically refresh entries in the imagery menu. You need to do that yourself. If you want to know the reasons, read commit comments, this trac and the mailing list.
