Users not aware of change in units of length

When you select a Way (or a chained series thereof), a length pops up in the status bar. For example, Way 256925652 (version 1) is "2.38 市里" long. Way 8715652 (version 6), which can be estimated at one mile long, is "3.31市里".

This length unit, when entered into Google Translate, translates from Chinese to "li" - which, in English, is not a real length unit.

The measure of zoom is also reported in Chinese units.

Simply don't use chinese units. You can change these in settings and also by clicking on the units field in the status bar. Default setting is metric.

Probably it should be not THAT easy to change the measurement system, as users do it accidentialy.

If we make it harder we'll have requests to make it simpler... We could add a notification "measurement unit changed to " xxx"

Yes. Such a note would be good I think. Adding a "click on ... to change it again".

Pop up menu on click would be an alternative solution.

fix #8859, fix #9893 - Change of System of Measurement (SoM) in map status:

• keep current behaviour (left click) but can be deactivated with statusbar.change-system-of-measurement-on-click
• add all SoMs in contextual menu (right-click) to have a direct access without cycling entirely
• notify user when SoM changes (can be deactivated statusbar.notify.change-system-of-measurement)
