#8265 new defect
unwanted move action
Reported by: | Gilbert54 | Owned by: | team |
---|---|---|---|
Priority: | normal | Milestone: | |
Component: | Core | Version: | tested |
Keywords: | unwanted move action | Cc: |
Description (last modified by )
when I select muliple objects, at some point the whole selection get attached to the mouse cursor and is dragged around with the mouse movement. The behavior is not consistent with a regular "move" action. On the last selection mouse click, my cursor changes to a 4-way arrow, but when I release the button, the "move" state remains. The only way to get out of this is to press escape or to select another tool in the left panel (and then of course undo the move).
Normal "move" command drops the move action as soon as you release the mouse button.
This is very annoying as it happens quite frequently.
Maybe releated to PC speed and mouse type ? I have a quad core 2.4 GHz PC on WIN7 x64 and Logitech wireless mouse.

I have (or rather had - since I just deleted the preferences file) following plug-ins:
- waydownloader version 28492
- utilsplugin2 version 28807
- turnrestrictions version 28807
- tageditor version 28807
- public_transport version 28807
- downloadalong version 28807
I reset the preferences and will try for a while without any plug-in. I'll report back if this makes any difference.

Do you still have this problem ?
Yes, I do. I disabled all plug-ins and it's still there.
Only after the initial start, I see "Move objects by dragging; Shift to add.... etc". in the status panel. After the first click on any object I constantly see the message "release the mouse button to stop moving" in the status panel, although I don't touch the mouse for a while. To me this suggests that the program is not properly tracking the status of the mouse buttons.
Am I the only one with this issue ?

No, I just had a look at it and I too have a similar issue. Currently it is only the info in the button panel which always "thinks" the mouse button is pressed. Message changes between the one above with at least one object selected and Release the mouse button to select the objects in the rectangle
I only noticed after mouse pointer did not change anymore but think there is already a ticket about this.

Did test some more:
- start JOSM with empty preferences.
- create new, empty layer.
- toggle mode
I only get the right message in selection mode after start. Once switched, I get the messages above.
Did test with openjdk-6 and 7. No differences.

My part is fixed. Can not reproduce with r6065.

Currently using build 6060 and still observing the issue when I select multiple objects. Do you want me to use 6065 and see what happens ? Do I have to turn something off or leave my preferences as they are ?

I did test tested version (r6060) and it is working, too.
Do I have to turn something off or leave my preferences as they are ?
Please, always test with an empty/non-existing JOSM folder. Either just move the folder or start JAVA / JOSM with the command line option -Djosm.home="path"
.
Thanks

Just upgraded to 6238 and tried again. First I removed the JOSM user folder (actually Ijust renamed it) and used only the JOSM
paint style. Tried by selecting 40..50 objects. All OK.
Next I added the Potlatch2 painting style to the JOSM style. Now I get the error. Nuùber of selections to trigger it varies, but usually more than a dozen.
Maybe this is a timing issue ? With more than one paint style enabled I suppose the program needs more time to refresh the window after every selection attempt ? I also notice (even with only 1 paint style enabled) that a selection is not always executed. Even though the object is pre-selected when I get near it with the cursor, I often have to click 2 or more times to get it selected.
Regards,
Gilbert

There are no plugins installed, right ?
Did you try it with an fresh preferences directory ? (Reset Preferences)
Note: You can save your preferences under "advanced preferences" or start with a different directory from command line.
