To ease the searching for the changeset, a few questions:
- How was the command invoked (e.g.,
/add_node?lon=...)? - Which was (one of) the latest JOSM version in which this was working?
- Which was (one of) the first JOSM versions having this bug?
- Could it be that the bug was introduced while merging the remotecontrol to the core?
Thanks in advance!

There was an extra option in the preferences
Did not use remote control the last months but I remember also a dialog (probably though it was only the safty dialog to manually allow remote control to perform its action)

Quite some time has passed but as far as I know this hits the point.
Sorry, do not have much time right now, but maybe next week.

What do you mean exactly? When I load a bbox using the remotecontrol, a progress bar is shown in the same way as if a bbox was downloaded via the JOSM dialog.

Sorry, I must have misread the comment in code.

I had a look at it and the feature is nice but I thought about an user's option to control the layer behaviour rather than another remote option.
Now I have to hope that the provided link has the proper form or adjust it if possible but as merging layers is much easier than ripping data apart I would prefere to tell remote control to always download in a new layer.
Thanks in advance.

Please guys, this was a nice feature which was lost.
