Tools-->UnGlue Ways is counterintuitive

Reported by: jp42@… Owned by: team

Component: Core Version: latest

Description

Assume you have two ways laid out like a cross: X. They share a common node in the middle. You want to unglue the ways. You select the node. It turns red. You select "Tools-->UnGlue Ways". They are now unglued and the node(s) are still red. You pull on the node(s) to move the ways apart. They act as if they are still glued together - counterintuitive for beginners like myself - it looks like nothing has happened. You MUST deselect the node first and then start pulling at the node(s) to see that the ways are in fact unglued. "Tools-->UnGlue Ways" should deselect the node(s) for you.

I tend to agree, but have the feeling we get annoyed users who want the old behaviour back... comments?

I don't think so. It was always a bad idea to select all nodes.

The first thing you do after ungluing nodes is deselect them all and select first one.

If we change the behavior so that after unglue only one node is selected, old users will not notice any change.

So which node to choose? The one that was already there or the one that is created? If a way is selected along with the node, it should be the node attached to that way, I guess.

Replying to bastiK:

If it's two or more ways crossing - probably doesn't matter - you need to work out which one is which by dragging on each one. If it's a T intersection, I would select the node terminating the way ie the vertical section of a T. You probably want to hook the end of the way on to some other way.
