Summary: | regression in preference dialog → Use the Einstein icon for Advanced Preferences instead of the new icon |
follow-up: 5 comment:3 by , 15 years ago
Actually Einstein prefs is an established name, so replacing Einstein is not one of the best ideas.

In favour of Einstein.
We could look for a smiling Einstein if the tongue is found to offensive...

Replying to stoecker:

It has certainly been there for a long time but no translatable string in JOSM references it as the Einstein dialog anymore, it's always just called "Advanced Preferences". That is also the case in the documentation.

Einstein's head isn't offensive. It also isn't very suggestive of an advanced preferences dialog compared to the new icon of a wrench and a document.

Do not consider the functionality only, but also the aesthetic and the historical aspect.
Well, this might be one of the few moments where the maintainer must have the final word. :)

Feel free to assign reasonalbe tickets to me in the future, but don't waste my time with stuff like this. Reassigning to team.

I'm closing this, as there seem to be more important things at the moment. The arguments by avar are reasonable. The new image is clearer and more new-by friendly.
Sorry for any possible distraction, but Einstein is there for a long time and it wouldn't do him justice to let his deletion be just unnoticed.
Please keep the new icon. Einstein with his tongue sticking out isn't very suggestive of an advanced preferences dialog, but the current icon is.
