Description
"Upon restoring the data file after JOSM crash, the autosave files are immediately deleted BEFORE securing a save." The File Menu, Toolbar icon and Ctrl+S are all disabled until one makes a single node add to the map. In this case upon loading the first image layer to see where to plant that, JOSM crashed again and all me hard intense landscape mapping were down the toilet.
How I know: When JOSM crashes I open up the regular data folder and the autosave folder to see which has the latest save time. It showed the last manual save was an hour before the last autosave. The timestamp makes me decide to not bother with restoring if the manual save is the freshest of the 2.
A solution: We need regular save enabled when a restore has taken place just before so that a copy can be secured to the regular data folder or a build-in routine that permits to backup the autosave data elsewhere, post haste.

As requested the 1,2,3 spiel.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- JOSM crashes and is asked to restore the last (autosave) backup
- The autosave files are restored then JOSM crashes again or is forced to crash by killing the JOSM app (when in hang state e.g.)
- On next restart no restore is offered and the autosave folder appears empty.
What is the expected result?
Since the data has not been secured one would expect the autosave backups to remain in place to until a manual save has been executed or the next scheduled autosave has taken place (set this to 8 minutes (480 seconds). Since the files open after a crash restore in the layer pane are the same as the autosaved data, JOSM would be expected to know these are restore layers rather than regular data sets which come from a different folder/store.
What happens instead?
JOSM crashed again before a chance to save the restored data file(s) and restore files appear gone with all work from point of last manual save.
