Description (last modified by )
Can we as contributors to OSM change the size of icons in the menu?
I'll add a screenshot to show the problem here - There's a whole bunch of regulatory signs that differ only in what's written in words on them.
The small icons - it's impossible for a user of JOSM to know what they're looking at.
But if we could increase the icon size - listing less menu options at once and thus more scrolling yes - but then it becomes readable for the user to see what he's actually clicking on?
And yes I know there's another plugin to add road signs - I'll look into that later - but that's not the point.
The point is if we can add a functionality to the menu - where a preset maintainer can enlarge the icon sizes - or bigger menu entries for submenus..

Taking a quick look at the preset svgs, it looks like you need to do some fiddling.
Specifically, you are embedding an image in the SVG (at least in Philippines_road_sign_R5-5_L.svg). My recommendation would be to get some acceptably licensed vector source files from the government, or, failing that (and assuming that the current images are acceptably licensed), tracing the image using a vector image editor, and using that.

Hi - I made the images myself mostly in GIMP per hand.
An>d then I load them in inkscape - and saving them as svg
I thought that means they are now svg - vectorized, are they not?
Can you point me to a website/tutorial to show me how to vectorize them if they're not yet?
Also - I got AutoCAD files from the government - which I use. But the original official autocad files are not exactly as the ones on the road, like the printed letters on the real sign - are different from the autocad file I got.
That's why I use GIMP because imo - our concept is mostly physical reality on the ground - so I use the autocad file as background for dimensions.. and then a real printed road sign along the road for the image creation in gimp.
But how do I do that "tracing?" would love to do that if you can point me to a website/tutorial?
EDIT: mrgenie edited this comment. I've put his reply in a quote block.

Well, we have the optional ìcon_size
but only for icons in presets and not for <item>
or <group>
.

JOSMs menu icon size is fixed and cannot be changed for individual entries, only in whole.

I didn't realize that mrgenie had responded to my questions.
@mrgenie: Can you please not edit a comment to reply to it in the future? I don't get an email that you made a comment if you do that. So I won't see that you replied.
I'll now reply to your edit to my comment.

Not really. SVG allows for embedded raster images. So what you have is an svg wrapper of a raster image.

Impossible understanding preset options
