JOSM shuts down semi frequently

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. JOSM quits sometimes when running the validator
2. JOSM quits sometimes when zooming in closer
3. Usually restarting the program makes it worse.

What is the expected result?

To have JOSM keep working consistently

What happens instead? JOSM kicks me off when I have to run the validator or zooming in.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if possible.

What do you mean with "JOSM quits"? I see lots of NullPointerException errors but no traceback. That's very unusual.

I've moved the user over to OpenWebStart (if this fixes the issue, then we may be able to just "close" it).

They were able to reproduce fairly reliably with Oracle Java 8, and the same actions did not cause it to reoccur with Azul Java 11.

EDIT: There was also the Apple crash report dialog. I'll try to remember to have them copy-paste the contents into this ticket if/when it happens again.

We won't fix any issue specific to Oracle WebStart anymore.
