Description
A typical workflow is that I download some objects using a Overpass query and then study the objects one by one. For this I typically download the area around the object and doing that using "Download in current view" is fine. Often though I want to select the download area myself so I open the Download Data menu and select the area and press Download. That however will execute the last Overpass query again but now for the small area.
Yes, it is for sure an operator error, I wonder if more people run into this.
For me it would be logical to have always the "Download from OSM" tab selected when executing Download data instead of the last selected tab. That will save me unnecessary Overpass queries.

I personally find the last selected tab more useful.

In the Overpass query log you could see how often somebody first downloads a query for a given bbox and later executes the exact same query for a smaller bbox that fits completely within the first bbox.
Seems like this is not something going wrong by many others so time to change my habits and likely better to close this issue.

Actually, I often use the same query quite often for small bbox once I have downloaded e.g. some route relations or because I am only working on certain objects like waterways or boundaries.

I have the query displayed in the upper part of the Overpass tab. This way I do not mix them up.
Still think, this is a valid enhancement, to give the user an option to change the behaviour.

I am used to the switch of servers but I still stumble over the check boxes for the data source/type selection and I still miss the option to download to new layer as default.
Speaking of this, I think some preferences options to define the settings would help:
false.
