JOSM is very slow to edit

Description

In the last month or so I noticed JOSM suddenly became slow to drag nodes, add new nodes, add new tags. About a 1000ms lag for each interaction. Not sure what I can provide to help debug the issue though.

I'm currently on JOSM/1.5 (15937 Debian en_AU) Linux Debian GNU/Linux bullseye/sid
