Uff, there are 54747 unique image values containing wikimedia according to https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/image#values (fill "search for value" box with "wikimedia").
Has there been a discussion whether this re-tagging is desired?

Not that I'm aware of. The advantage of this is that the wikimedia_commons can be treated specially by renders because it has images in various sizes. With any image= url you don't know the size of the image beforehand.
I will invite to more discussion of this in tagging.

It should also be possible to provide an autofix
