Cannot upload Amharic letters

While we already kind of resigned to using other system applications to type Amharic (Ethiopian Language) and then copy+paste the texts to JOSM (see https://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/8259), now uploading of Amharic characters is no longer working.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Create a POI with tag name=ብልቭ (copy paste to JOSM, will be displayed as boxes)
  • Upload

Server returns:

The OSM server '​https://api.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/' reported a bad request. Error message(untranslated): XML Error: Char 0x0 out of allowed range

Can we please have a better support for Amharic language input and upload.

This is a blocker for mapping in Ethiopia.

Looks like I cannot reproduce this problem any more after resetting all preferences ... strange...

I don't have any information to investigate. If you manage to reproduce, please reopen and:

  • attach your status report
  • post your changeset number and exact date/time at which the error occurs
  • post the JOSM console output so we can see full error messages

The resolution will be deleted. Next status will be 'reopened'.

Add Comment
E-mail address and name can be saved in the Preferences .
