Setting user specific keyboard shortcuts to frequently used user tags eg building=house

I have googled on a number of occasions for any information on this functionality and found no information that suggests that this is possible in JOSM. I am drawing loads of houses and going through the tagging process each time is tedious, eg

1. selecting the way that forms the a house outline, then
2. alt-a to get the tag pop-up, then
3. typing 'building', then
4. tab and typing 'house'

If you have 100 houses on a street this is tedious and exhausting. We need to be able to custom assign a single key or key sequence for this or other tags that users are using frequently.
I am using JOSM tested version 12712.

Thats really clunky.
Edit --> Preferences --> "Advanced Preferences" --> double click "buildings_tools.tags" and change yes to house.
Or do the same again for lots of garages.
Lets be clear, what I suggest cannot be done by your suggestion, unless I missed something.
In the OP above I am talking about making available one or two or more user customisable key shortcuts for tags a user is using very many times in a session eg
building = house, or
building = garage

You can change the tags in the preferences of the building tools plugin, see screenshot:

This way works only when creating new rectangle shapes.

To tag existing objects with several tags you can use "copy selected key/value(s)" in the context menu of the Tags Membership panel and use Help/Action/PasteTags

So this is not exactly a "user customisable key shortcut for tags", but may help you with your workflow for now.
