#12099 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Move a selected object to a new layer

Reported by: v73p Owned by: team
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Core Version: latest
Keywords: Cc:

Required feature:

  1. Select an object.
  2. When required, move the object to a new layer. The new layer to be created on the fly.

Reason for request.

Please see attached image. In this image, the overlying Places/Geography/City object is obstructing the image below. It would be nice to move only this object to a new layer and then hide the layer so that the underlying map is clearly visible for further action.

place=* fill color is now hidden by default, see #12043. Since r9005, r9008 and r9009 (and maybe upcomming fixes) fill color also for all other areas is less changing the backgorund color. There is now also brightness and gamma value slider for the background, so your usecase should be already fixed.

See #18377 for the request to merge to a new layer.
Removing it from the original layer gets difficult as purge will purge parents and deleting is not working, either.
