Selecting non branching ways with a filter applied

It would be extremely useful if the select non branching ways command would ignore filtered objects as a branch. Cleaning up imported data like this in Japan involves a large scale merging of broken segments at junctions and currently there is no convenient way to select and merge them quickly.

Rick, ha good catch. From personal experience my most common use for shift+w has been to select ways to combine them. Maybe a modifier of this tool could be something to the effect of select non branching mergable ways (cmd+shift+w) where the tags of the selection match perfectly. Good idea?
