Mapbox zoom close to ground function disappeared?

Dear whomever this may concern,
Did just the functionality of looking at pixelated mapbox imagery disappear? Now when zooming close to ground the image is replaced with a big X.
Version 8651.

I am in need of this function.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Open JOSM
2. Open whatever location.
3. Select Mapbox imagery
4. Zoom in close to ground.

What is the expected result?

No X appears and pixelated image is shown.

What happens instead?

X appears.

Confirmed. It works in 8491.

So, do I understand correctly, that on josm-latest you see "X"-es? Can you share the location, where this is happening, as I just tried with latest, and in all places I could find, I observed proper behaviour (no X where shown).
