Description
I created a new bus route relation using JOSM 7347 this morning - changeset 24780475, relation 3963568.
When I reviewed the updates, the relation member had been correctly added to the northern end of the bus route (way 4270503) but the adjoining way which I didn't create or amend (way 298032466) has also been updated with my id AND remained at version #1.
This looks like a defect - some history appears to have been lost and the wrong id has been associated with a way.
Hope you can make sense of what is going wrong here. If you need more info, please let me know.
Many thanks.

Yes I'd forgotten how that works - thanks for the reminder.
It still seems incorrect that because I have split an existing way into 2 parts that I suddenly become the original owner of 1 part even though it may have had as interesting a history as the other part. Somebody else reviewing that way would have no idea of its history.
As a new way has effectively been created, it would be a bit strange to propogate the history through to both parts - though logically that approach would makes a lot of sense - to me anyway!
Thanks again for your help.

A similar thing has happened with various other ways in the same changeset. I've changed an existing way to include the new bus route relation but the history of that way appears to have been lost as we only now have a way tagged with my id AND version #1 e.g. way 298032463. Where did the history go ?
The changeset does not record that any ways have been deleted.
