#10098 reopened enhancement

adding a new tag with a already existing key makes you loose your value if you do not overwrite

Reported by: maizzerna Owned by: team
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: Core Version:
Keywords: tag Cc:

Description

Steps:

  • have a object with a tag foo=bar
  • add a new tag (alt+a): use a key which already exists (foo). foo=rab
  • question pops up and asks if you want to overwrite. Cancel.

Expected: should take you back to the "add" window to give you the chance to change the key or to copy the value.

Actual: your new key and value (which may be long - in case of notes) is lost.

Minor bug but not so easy to fix as it is not designed this way. This behaviour is acceptable, there's no real loss of data.

for me the behavior was not acceptable, otherwise I would not have reported a bug. I had entered a longer text as value (key: note) which was lost after having this problem. If you compile many info sources into a text it can quite take some time and may not be easily re-do-able (e.g. if you delete bookmarks in your browser because you have converted them into a note text).
