Once the move tool is selected you can move items in the main window, by moving the mouse cursor close to the item, then left clicking while dragging the mouse.

If the mouse cursor is near a node when performing the move action, the just one node is moved.

If the mouse cursor is near a segment which is not part of a way, or alternatively if a segment is part of a way and you hold hold the shift key down, when performing the move action, then just the segment, and its two associated nodes are moved.

If the mouse cursor is near a way when performing the move action, then all segments which form part of that way, together with their associated nodes, are moved.
