Tools > Merge Nodes
Keyboard shortcut: CTRL+SHIFT+M
If you have two or more nodes selected and you use this tool the nodes are merged into one.
Note there is also a merge nodes function associated with the Select Move tool.
There is a further merge nodes function if the Utils plugin has been installed.
