Replace Geometry to work with any object

Functionality works only if two objects are selected where one has an id and the other does not.
If both objects have an id, or neither have an id, the plugin only displays the message "Please select one way that exists in the database and one new way with correct geometry.", which is difficult to interpret for someone who isn't familiar with the plugin's functionality (such as I).
I'd like to request that the plugin would replace any selected geometry (for example, in AlignWays left click selects target, ctrl-click selects source).

The main purpose of this function is/was to keep the history of objects and to not create too many new objects. Your suggestion would make it way more complex as the order of selection would make a difference and we would need to make decisions about which ids to keep.
Did not try it in your special case but do you know the conflation plugin. Does it work in your case ?
