Hi,
I'm happy to announce the first version of the IBGE layer, based on the PDFs from the population count survey. The final result is a map of the whole Brazil, with approximately 75 GB of tiles. This map will be very handy to extract road names.
Remember to use the tag "source=IBGE" when using data taken from this layer. This is a requirement by data made availiable by IBGE:

JOSM layer:

Leaflet.js sample using this layer with alpha combined with OSM:

Acknowledgments:
- Dominik Röttsches (abrax5), for offering and maintaining the infrastructure needed to generate and upload the maps. Also for introducing me to the world of maps and teaching a lot of stuff about projections.
- Mapbox, in special Alex Barth, for proactively offering storage space for hosting the tiles and Will White for the quick tech support when I needed. And of course, for the amazing opensource tools like Tilemill.
- The OSM Brazil community for the important feedback and keeping me motivated.
Known issues:
- Rio de Janeiro capital is missing, I'm on it.
- São Grabriel da Chachoeira - AM is very misplaced to the north.
- Some parts of Belém are in the middle of the sea for an unknown reason.
- Something else that you are going to report. :)
Br and happy mapping!
Could we have this TMS added to the list of imagery layers? Coverage is almost all urban areas in Brazil, layer is slightly misaligned many places, and not good for tracing, but a very helpful tool for naming streets.

We are happy to take community input for imagery entries :)
You may give a try to Imagery-XML-Bounds plugin, that's its sole design. It allows to trace imagery shape. You can then add it to Maps/Brazil :)

Your bounding box seems very large for the existing data and also you seem to have a minimum zoom level below which no data is delivered. I think the imagery entry can be improved.
You are welcome to add the new imagery by yourself. Please, have a look at Maps.
