Handle OSM message system (at least notification about unread messages)

Currently the only way to check whatever I received message from other users is is to log in on OSM website (I am not using it) or via e-mail (tends to arrive when I am busy with things more important than OSM).

I would prefer to receive notification about messages - or even read and reply using OSM editor (=JOSM).

I think that it would be welcomed by a typical user and improve communication with people, especially ones that registered using their rarely checked e-mail.

The API does not allow to read or send messages, but we have the number of unread messages:
​https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/API_v0.6#Details_of_the_logged-in_user

So the notification of unread messages is possible :)

We have an option to later change the reporter of a ticket, e.g. you do not need to open another ticket. Just leave a comment and we can change it. - Thanks

If you open or comment on a note as user and someone else comments on the note you also get an email. Logically the same email is used though I did not find any info similar to mail on the user page so far.
