Description
When working with large amounts of data (and especially with polygons that must be filled) JOSM becomes very very slow. The map rendering is all done via software, couldn't some form of hardware acceleration be used?
I've done some experiments with JOGL and the program I'm attaching. From my simple benchmark, I obtain that OpenGL is able to draw segments about 3 times faster and to fill polygons about from 10 to 15 times faster. My program is probably not a very good test about real performances, but I think it gives the idea!

Please try the latest version (rev. 631 or later), it should be better now.
