Description

With latest and tested versions of JOSM on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid I cant type russian names. When I switch to russian layout, the indicator on the panel changes, but only english symbols appear in form.

I can only type russian names in external editor and then copy-paste.

What do you meant with "switch to russian layout"? Where in JOSm does the problem appear? Which version did you use previously which worked? Which version do you use know which does not work?

  1. I have 4 languages installed in the system: ENG, GER, RUS, UKR. It does not matter, what language is active, only english symbols appear in form.
  2. The problem appears, when I try to add or edit "name" or similar fields in properties.
  3. It appears in all latest and tested versions.
  4. I worked in Ubuntu with english and german interfaces. All is ok there. It seems, that the problem appears, when I have russian interface.

Sorry, but I still do not understand. You mix something here. JOSMs language does not affect the way strings or input are handled. You mean that you have different keyboard layouts and the Latin layout works, the Russian not?

Did this work previously in JOSM or not?

If my above assumption is correct, then this is nothing related to JOSM, but to the interaction between Java and your OS. Trying a different Java version may help.

Does the same issue also appear when you:

  • enter a name in file dialog
  • enter something e.g. in preferences where no autocompletion is used (e.g. advanced preferences table).

Sorry, probably I explain it wrong. Will try again.

The main problem is that I can't type into forms russian symbols. Instead of russian symbols I get only english.

I have just found out, that it is not really a JOSM bug. The latest JOSM works perfectly on 10.04, but when I have german or english localized system (I can type russian symbols again!).

Strange, Ubuntu 10.04 Russian causes this problem.

please answer questions by stoecker.

You can try if it works in other Java software. Maybe you get help on the Ubuntu forums, switching keyboard layout was always a buggy for me in Ubuntu but I don't know the issue that it works for some apps and for others, it doesn't.

stoecker, the same happens for me:

  • file dialog
  • fields, where is no autocompletion.

Seems, it is Java+Ubuntu bug.

Thank you

Hi, all!

I have just tried to start JOSM on virtual machine with Ubuntu 10.04 i386 RUS, there is no such problem. All is working as it should.

So there are 2 possible things:
1) the problem is resolved with latest Ubuntu updates;
2) the problem appears only on AMD64 platform.

Can anyone from russian-speaking users test it on their machines?
I dont have an opportunity now to test JOSM on russian ubuntu 10.04 AMD64.

Thank you.
