Can't change external download helper for WMS plugin

Description
This is happening with v 3329 (tested), first on Ubuntu but then I checked on XP and it's the same.
I want to use gnome-web-photo --mode=photo --format=png {0} /dev/stdout
as an external downloader for the WMS plugin, but apparently when I change this it is not saved in the preferences. If I reopen the prefs dialog then the external downloader is set back to the default: webkit-image {0}
.
In order to test things out I tried to change other options, like adding other WMS servers and changing the checkboxes on the bottom, everything works/is saved fine except the external downloader option.
This results in the red "exception" tiles, meaning an unusable WMS plugin. I could of course try to installwebkit-image
, but the whole point of having an option is to be able to use it, right? ;)
I tried to see if I could mess with the prefs files to hard-code the external helper, but I guess those are binary files, so no luck. Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong to change the external downloader, or if this is indeed a bug.

Can't reproduce. Works as expected.
Is the value saved in you josm prefs?
Does it work, when you enter it in advanced prefs yourself (wmsplugin.browser)
I didn't know how to check if it is saved in the josm prefs, but I would guess not as changing the value has no effect.
I will check changing the advanced prefs manually.
FYI this is the first time I install JOSM, and it has failed the same way on Ubuntu 10.04, Windows XP, and Ubuntu 10.04 inside VmWare. This might happen only to new installs?

Without changing anything, "wmsplugin.browser" is empty. I entered "gnome-web-photo --mode=photo --format=png {0} /dev/stdout" in it, and when I reopened the WMS preferences the external downloader was indeed changed to gnome-web-photo. But when I wanted to open Yahoo Sat, a new layer was created but nothing in particular appeared (tried with different zoom levels)
This is what appeared in the command line window:
Grabbing HTML http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wmsplugin/YahooDirect.html?bbox=1888150.5243371,3154470.1426593,1889409.2913534,3155728.9096755&srs=EPSG:3944&width=500&height=499 Grabbing HTML http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wmsplugin/YahooDirect.html?bbox=1888150.5243371,3155728.9096755,1889409.2913534,3156987.6766917&srs=EPSG:3944&width=499&height=499 Grabbing HTML http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wmsplugin/YahooDirect.html?bbox=1888150.5243371,3153211.3756430,1889409.2913534,3154470.1426593&srs=EPSG:3944&width=499&height=499
As I had added the OSM wms server, I tried again by loading OSM instead of Yahoo. I got a tile that was 1/6 red with "Error Invalid parameters" , 4/6 grey and 1/6 white, nothing else. This is what appeared in the cmd:

Then in the end to test this out, I tried to change the external downloader again, this time to "gnome-web-photo-fixed {0}". When I reopened the WMS prefs, it didn't change and was still "gnome-web-photo --mode=photo --format=png {0} /dev/stdout".
Something weird is happening here...
P.S.: I'm echokilo17@... Just created an account.

I experienced the same with latest and the normally downloaded wmsplugin file [1], but not with my own compiled version.
The binary seemed to be broken somehow.
I published a new version, please update plugins!

I've updated the plugin, now it's v 22001. However, the same behavior is happening. Changing the "wmsplugin.browser" pref manually doesn't seem to work either (receiving "image == null!", but that might be another bug). Or maybe I'm not manually entering the right value in the prefs?

My fault, please try again.

Updated to v 22008, and I can now change the external downloader, so this bug is indeed fixed. Still can't download tiles though, so I'll open a new bug later, after trying some things out.
To be complete, I've just downloaded
latest
(v 3337) and the same is happening, the preferred external downloader is not saved. So changing the version to latest
