Hmm, I'm not really sure how it should be (I never used that mode), but I find the current form really helpful. It reduces the wrongly creation of unwanted objects and is nevertheless intuitive.

Closing as wontfix, what do you think?

IIRC potlatch style is very unlike Potlatch, e.g. right mouse to drag the map, etc.

So either fix it and create a full potlatch compatability mode (useful, but much work) or leave thing as they are and find another name/descibtion for it.

When newbies come from potlatch, they may feel that UI is arkward in JOSM then see this mode in the options, try it and are disappointed. That's not needed.

It is already called "Modeless working (Potlatch style)". Our aim was not to have a Potlatch replacement, but to have a fully modeless workflow. We have choosen to not make that default, as the current JOSM standard seems the optimum regarding power user workflow and beginners. Like for Potlatch in the modeless workflow clicking to often results in unwanted nodes.

We never had the aim to emulate Potlatch or even offer Potlatch compatibility.
