Description
The situation is where two ways share in part the same set of nodes, eg a wood runs alongside a road.
It should be possible to add a new node into the middle of both ways.
At present you can only add a node into one way, and then add another node into the other way.

OK, I've tried again, and if i really zoom out a long way then yes it does as you say, but I REALLY have to zoom out a LONG way.
For instance I have a two ways sharing two nodes about 300m apart, I have to zoom out until the scale bar reads 2.3km before the effect you describe occurs.

Sorry to re-open this but I cant get any consistent behavior.
To be clear, the situation is as follows:
Two or more ways share the same set of nodes A-B-C-D (eg a wood area along side a road). I want to make the shape a bit better defined, and add a new node between say B & C, and I want this new node to be inse5rted into both ways (ie the wood and the road).
I just cant seem to consistently acheive the above result, and others have reported the same on the josm-dev mailing list

Further infomation:
I've just notices that if the "segments" in the two ways go in different directions then josm seems to do what i want, if the segments go in the same direction then the behavior I am complaining about exists.

Sorry. I reintroduced that bug with the new modeless mapmodes. Fixed in r387.

This has been possible for some while (at least since API 0.5). Just zoom out a bit so that both ways are within 10px of the mouse pointer, and then add a node (If you're using an older version you might have to use the "split node" tool).
