What was the scale at which you did the tracing?
Since interpolation of the traced lines is linear in lat/lon space, this can produce curved lines when the scale is very large and the display coordinate system is mercator.

In [o19678]
It performs calculations in projected coordinates, now. (So Mercator by default.)

Its caused in very large scales for example 300km
