#24816 new defect

Merging selection with one node selected does not work for a selection of closed way with more than 20 nodes

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: team
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Core Version:
Keywords: template_report Cc:

Description

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Create a closed way A with more than 20 nodes
  2. Create another closed way B with exactly or less than 20 nodes
  3. Multiselect closed way A and one of its nodes A1
  4. Hold the left mouse button and Ctrl key to enter merge mode
  5. Drag the selection near closed way B such that the cursor is directly above one of its nodes B1 and changes icon to indicate intent of merging
  6. Release the left mouse button
  7. Observe the resultant action
  8. Repeat steps 3. to 7. with closed ways A and B swapped

What is the expected result?

The selected node A1 from closed way A should merge into the node B1 from closed way B directly below the cursor and the rest of the nodes from the selection should be offset by the same distance to retain the original shape of the closed way A. It would appear as if the selected closed way A 'snapped' to closed way B via their respective nodes A1 and B1.

The same result should be observed when merging the selection of the closed way B and one of its nodes B1 to one of the nodes A1 from the closed way A.

What happens instead?

In case of the selection of closed way A and one of its nodes A1, A1 does not merge into the node B1 when the left mouse button is released. Instead the selection places itself at the last position it was in during dragging mode.

In case of the selection of closed way B and one of its nodes B1, B1 successfully merges into the node A1 and offsets the rest of the nodes from the selection by the same distance as intended.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if possible.

This defect was discovered while using the merge feature for 'snapping' buildings i.e. to align buildings along a common way or connect adjacent buildings together when it failed to connect buildings with complex geometries with each other. This feature could prove extremely beneficial to modelling symmetrical and perfectly aligned buildings once this defect is addressed.
