Usually this indicates a problem in the used Java Runtime, not in JOSM. Please update your JRE to the latest version (currently 1.6.0_13) and try to reproduce the error.

I also had a crash with the development verersion on a big changeset. The gui stopped to work normally and there errormessages in the gui, but without content. Unfortunately I couldn't get a backtrace nor reproduce it.
