#21585 new enhancement

Render bicycle access tags on highway=pedestrian

Reported by: gaben Owned by: team
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: Internal mappaint style Version:
Keywords: pedestrian bike bicycle access Cc:

Description

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Tag a highway=pedestrian with a bicycle access tag to reflect this traffic sign

What is the expected result?

The bike access tag changes the solid bold green line to something else to show biking allowed there.

What happens instead?

Bike access tag not handled at all while rendering.

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if possible.

I'm not sure if it can be applied to all countries.

I doubt that country specific rendering will be include in default style. See also #21518.
I'd love to have support for more access tags in general, beside access=*, but that is a different story.

Are there both kind of traffic signs (the "regular" and this special one) for pedestrians in Hungary?
Do you have examples of the tagging system that is used?

It depends on your point of view. When you abstract the location away, the access rendering remains there, and it can appear anywhere in the world, which is worth including anyway.

Yes, we have both signs:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hungary_road_sign_E-036.svg

On overpass there is plenty of examples, even the wiki page mentions it. Simply put it's highway=pedestrian + bicycle=yes, although I think bicycle=designated is more appropriate.

At least in Germany, there is a major difference between bicycle=yes and bicycle=designated. From a legal perspective, highway=pedestrian + bicycle=designated contradicts, as pedestrian are only designated for pedestrians.
That said, I know pedestrians with bicycle access quite well, like way/4784106, way/273332419 or way/716734286. Many of them have more access tags, though, and motor_vehicle=* and vehicle=* are at least on the same level of importance than bicycle=*.
