Double-click does not work as expected

When double-clicking a relation, a way in the selection, a group of errors or object in the validator, etc. I would like JOSM to
1) select the object
2) select the map surface to enable me to move around (Switch to Select-mode if in another mode).

Now what happens is that focus is
1) the object is highlighted
2) focus staying on the list being double-clicken on and I cannot move around the map. (the only way to return to the map without resetting the selection is to click the icon of select-mode with the mouse, which I find cumbersome having to do all the time)
