Description
In Advanced Preferences, try to
- Change an item, then export it.
One ends up needing to:
- Change an item.
- Click OK (whereupon all of Preferences Closes!)
- Click Edit
- Click Preferences
- Click Advanced Preferences
- Go find that item all over again, if indeed you remember it
- Click that item
- Click Export Selected Items
My new improved way would only require:
- Change an item.
- Click OK
- Click that item
- Click Export Selected Items
That is because my improved way removes the knee-jerk closing of
Preferences.
So if OK no longer closes Preferences, how will one close it?
Via an additional Close button.

the use case you describe is not used by a lot of people and thus is not worth changing the preferences dialog. Users usually only change parameters then close the dialog with OK.

Or keep your current OK button behavior, but add an additional Apply button.
