#12907 closed enhancement (fixed)

Add satellite image of Cotonou (Benin)

Reported by: sommerluk Owned by: team
Priority: normal Milestone: 16.06
Component: Core imagery Version:
Keywords: Benin Cc:

Recently, there was a crowdfounding campain to buy satelite imagery for Cotonou (Benin) for the usage in OSM:
The crowdfounding compain was successful. They include images of Cotonou and some smaller parts in direction Grand Popo.

These and more image layers are available at wmts:

I do not know the details of the license and the hosting. But the campain was organized by @stlejer-morvrini so he probably has all the details. The image is provided especially for use in OSM.

This satelite image is really important for OSM in Benin, because Cotonou is the biggest city of this country and Bing and Mapbox do not have a good resolution for Cotonou (only landsat quality).

So it would be really great to have this image available in the OSM editors.

Please add it yourself at Maps/Benin. It will then appear within JOSM.
For more info see Maps

However you should clarify the question about the license first.

I’ve talked by e-mail with the organizator of the crowdfounding, and he told that indead the license allows usage in OSM (was the goal of the purchase), and he gave as link, so I’ve now added the layer.

The imagary layer covers two different regions in Benin. It’s added twice (one time with boundary for Cotonou, and a second time with boundary for Grand-Popo). Or is there a more elegant way to do this?

So I close this ticket as RESOLVED FIXED.

BTW: As this WMTS URL provides various layers, JOSM will pop up a dialog and ask which layer to use. Is there a way to pre-select the layer?

You can add several shapes, look at French or Spanish maps for example.
