The URL that you've entered points to WMS server. It does not select any layer or anything. You can use this URL, when you go to Imagery Prefrences and choose to add WMS server.
If you want to use Custom WMS link, you need to provide fully templated URL, such as this one:
http://geodata1.nationaalgeoregister.nl/luchtfoto/wms?FORMAT=image/jpeg&VERSION=1.1.1&SERVICE=WMS&REQUEST=GetMap&LAYERS=luchtfoto_png&STYLES=&SRS={proj}&WIDTH={width}&HEIGHT={height}&BBOX={bbox}
