Download from OSM mirror menu entry is missing - JOSM 8800

Description
I made a fresh installation of JOSM 8800.
I understand that the former mirrored_download plugin is now part of the JOSM core and therefore can not/does not have to be installed as a seperate plugin anymore
I activated the Expert mode in the View menu.
The file menu however only shows the Download from OSM and Download from Overpass API options. The former Download from OSM mirror menu entry and function is missing.
Does that mean that the mirrored download function is not available anymore?

With the former mirrored_download plugin and menu one was able to download large areas of osm data.
Trying to download the same areas with the Download from Overpass API even for small areas ends with error messages like "Query run out of memory in "bbox-query" at line 1 using about 514 MB of RAM".
Is there any way to overcome this limitation?

@anonymous: Please create a new ticket for a new question and provide sufficient detail on what a small area is for you and the query you used.
That aside, I still am able to download bigger areas from Overpass API without problems.

Use "Download from Overpass API" and do not input any query. This is analogue to the old action w/o entering an XAPI query.
No, its function is now in the window which opens when you click on Download from Overpass API in the File menu.
