Can not connect JOSM to the server - JAVA 8 OSX Yosemite on Macbook Pro

Description

Appreciate your help.

JOSM will not connect to the server

JOSM app, version 8491
Java 8 build 51
OS X Yosemite
Macbook Pro
No poxy servers set in System Preferences or in browsers

I can test access the OpenStreetMap API in Chrome and Firefox and see xml: http://api.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/way/93710880
And here with a secure connection: https://api.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/way/93710880

In JOSM I have

  • chosen the JOSM menu (top left)
  • chosen 'preferences...'
  • on the icons running down the side, I’ve chosen the second one which looks like a globe
  • checked 'Use the default OSM server URL (https://api.openstreetmap.org/api)
  • I’ve entered my OSM username and password.

Thank you for your assistance. I've tried everything I can think of and no joy. I am cleaning up mapping in Nepal and need JOSM.

I could not attach the screen shots. Please tell me how to do that other than checking the box.
Suzan

I found two instances of ipv6. I changed both to False. One was True, the other Auto. Situation solved.

Seems to be a general problem on OS X.

NEW PROBLEM:

I can open JOSM and see the daily announcement, and even get a message and links to messages in OSM, but now I can not download any data. I get errors that it is still not connecting to the server.

I have also set preferences to work remotely, and I can not access it from the Tasking Manager, either.

I ran into the same issue with JOSM 8667 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, so this is not a Mac problem. The default 'auto' value for the prefer.ipv6 setting seems to completely break network connectivity. JOSM can't fetch OSM data, plugin lists, or even its own help content. Setting it to 'false' resolves the issue.
