Graphical Artifacts Throught The Application (Dell Vostro + nVidia Graphics)

When I launch JOSM using the JNLP link, I get a lot of graphical artifacts. I've attached a screenshot showing one of them.

The status report is also attached.

My computer's configuration is as follows:

  • Windows 8 Pro
  • Dell Vostro 3460
  • Intel Core i7
  • 8 GB RAM
  • NVidia GeForce GT 630M graphics

We need more info:

  • does it only happen with Web Start? What happens with java -jar josm-tested.jar ?
  • Have you tried to update your graphics drivers?
  • can you try with Java 7 ?
  • what happens with older versions of JOSM ? (for example version 7000 in download).
  • your status bar looks to be displayed at the top of the screen, does the problem also occurs if you move it at the bottom?

update graphics drivers?

I'm running the latest versions of the Intel and NVidia drivers available from Dell (http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/servicetag/B4Z61W1/drivers).

Java 7

It would be pretty inconvenient for me to try that; let me know if you'd still like me to give that a shot in light of your later post about Java bugs.

Java bug 8020415 looks a lot like the problem I'm having.

ok thanks for the answers. No need to do further tests as it show it's not a JOSM problem but a bad combination of Java and graphics drivers. The only option I see is to look at new drivers and new versions of Java frequently, until this bug disappears. Java 8u11 has been released previous week, and 8u20 is planned for August.
