Unable to add to way

I am running version 5174 and now when I select a way and then use draw nodes on a node at the end of the originally selected way, it doesn't connect to the selected way. This was working yesterday and I am not sure if JOSM has updated and this is what is causing it. It is making editing pretty frustrating.

Yeah, for it depence on my last action in draw mode:

• if my last action was adding a segment to this way, it suffices to select the way and enter the draw mode to extend it.
• for all other ways, I either need to select the end/start node before entering draw mode or as first action in draw mode.

I think these inconsistency is caused by the complexity of the way how drawing works keeping the double click on end and all the special handling in mind. I doubt that chaning this really improves situation :-)
